Typing and editing text in PageLiner is almost identical to PageStream. You can place and move the insertion point, and select blocks of text for copying and cutting.

Keyboard shortcuts to move the insertion point are very similar to PageStream, although some are not applicable to PageLiner. The following paragraph lists those you can use in PageLiner.

Copying and pasting text

When you need to copy, move or delete text in an article, you can cut or copy a selected range of text. PageLiner stores cut or copied text in the Amiga clipboard. Text in the clipboard can then be pasted into the current article, another article, or into another application such as PageStream. When text has been copied to the clipboard from PageLiner or another application that supports the Amiga clipboard, it can be pasted into a PageStream text frame with the Paste command.

PageLiner copies text to the clipboard in IFF DTXT and IFF FTXT formats, and can copy and paste text to and from PageStream.

When text is cut or copied to the clipboard, the contents of the clipboard will be replaced and the previous contents will be lost. If data in another program supporting the Amiga clipboard is copied to the clipboard, the contents of the clipboard will be replaced. Only one block of data may normally be stored in the clipboard at once.

Finding and replacing text

PageLiner allows you to search for a text string and, optionally, replace it with a different text string. PageLiner always begins searching from the insertion point forward.

To find or replace text: Choose the Find/Replace command from the Edit menu. Enter the search string into the Find text gadget. To replace text, enter the new text into the Replace text gadget. Click on Find to begin the search. If PageLiner finds the search string it will highlight it. Click on Replace to change this occurrence or click on Replace All to replace all occurrences. To find the next occurrence without changing this one, click on Find again.

You can move the Find/Replace requester to help you see the found text in context. The requester can be left open while you work, so you can make changes to the text window and then return to the Find/Replace requester to continue the search.

You can close the Find/Replace requester and continue to search for and replace text. Choose the Find Again command from the Edit menu to search for the next occurrence or the Replace Again command from the Edit menu to replace the current occurrence and find the next one. This is a faster way to work because you can quickly make changes and continue searching without using the mouse.

If text is highlighted, it will be copied to the Find text gadget when the Find/Replace command is chosen.

Checking spelling

PageLiner allows you to check the spelling of an article by comparing the words you have typed against the words in a dictionary. PageLiner always begins spell checking from the insertion point forward.

Your copy of PageLiner includes an American English dictionary. Additional dictionaries may be included, depending on the country of purchase. Contact SoftLogik Publishing for the availability of additional dictionaries.

To spell check an article: Choose the Spell Check command from the Edit menu. PageLiner will highlight the first word it cannot find in the dictionary and open a requester to show the word. Click on Ignore to ignore all future occurrences of this word. If the word is incorrect, you can change it manually or you can click on Lookup to search the dictionary for a similar word. Choose a word from the list and click on Replace to substitute this word for the incorrect work. Replace and Ignore will highlight the next unknown word.

If the unknown word is correct, click on Add to add it to the dictionary. If you add a misspelled word, you can remove it from the dictionary by typing it into the text gadget and clicking on Delete.

Words added in the dictionary are not saved in the main dictionary file. Your words are stored in the Custom.dictionary file which is used in conjunction with the main dictionary. You can delete words from either dictionary with the Delete gadget. PageLiner shares dictionary files with PageStream, so words added in one program will be available in the other.

To check the spelling of one word: Choose the Lookup command from the Edit menu. Type the word into the text gadget and click on Lookup. If you select a word before choosing the command, the word will be inserted into the text gadget automatically.

Undo

If you accidentally cut, delete or paste text, you can undo the mistake by choosing the Undo command from the Edit menu. You can redo what you have undone by choosing Undo again.

PageLiner allows only one level of undo, and you can only undo cutting, deleting and pasting.
